Gorillas in the mist, Bronte

Good on Paper

Today looks great on paper, offshore SSW winds with 4-6 foot south swell. Call me fussy…something is missing. The swell lines appear broken and random. The morning high tides are putting plenty of wobble in the faces and I didn’t see anyone catch fun waves. Maybe when the tide drops out, it will improve. I […]

Bondeye

It’s that time of year again, City to Surf setup.  I love watching them build those tents on the sand…then they pray for calm weather. Last week was pretty wild and I can see them spending most of their time on clean up. There’s some nice lil’ 3 footers out there today. It’s offshore, sunny […]

Front

It’s about to get all polar on us. This weekend our sunny days will be replaced with a windy cold front dropping the mercury to an annual low. They reckon the coldest day of the year will be in Sydney on Sunday. Get ya uggies on. At 7am this morning Bondi didn’t have a cloud […]

Golden Mist

Great time of year…good colours The air is crisp and clean. When the sun is low to the horizon the warm tones seem accentuated. Especially when shooting against a dark background, like a big cliff. Bronte had a few wobbly things this morning…nothing special…Bondi had low tide waves…nothing special. Enjoy today’s sunshine, as from here […]

Frigid

The mercury dropped out this morning to a chilly 8 degrees. Fresh! The chill kept most people tucked up in bed as the beach was quite empty, early. I saw some fun waves at Bondi, at best, head high. Right now (12:40pm) I look out the window and see cloudless blue skies boasting 14 degrees. […]

Burst

For only a few minutes we had strong, golden, contrasty light. It looked amazing. Then the black clouds came over and smothered the beach with darkness. It was like something out of a Armageddon movie. There are waves but it’s not fantastic. 2-3 footers slapping close to shore with a full morning tide. ::uge

The waves have gone back to small and the crowds were up enjoying the incredible weather. Nice morning wasn’t it? Today it’s going to hit 30 degrees and there ain’t a cloud in the sky – that’s all you really need to know and should be packing up your desk and hitting the beach right […]

T R I P D I P

We’ve been spoiled recently with such inviting beach conditions. The air is cooler, but the water remains a salubrious bath temp. It’s just a pleasure to swim around in the mornings. The claws of winter are creeping closer, so enjoy this time…Autumn time is the best. Waves – much smaller today, and fat. Waistline to […]

The swell forecast was 21.1 seconds, South swell at 3.5 foot with NW winds. Translation = good waves at Bondi. Well that didn’t happen. It’s tiny. Instead it was more like: 25 degrees, perfectly sunny, no wind and knee to waist high waves. Oh, and water clarity incredible and warm water (still). I feel like […]

As far as weekends go that was the biz. The past two days have just been exquisite beach days. Barely any wind, perfect temperatures and clean, warm water. This morning was no exception…but we could do with a few good waves aye? You would’ve missed last Friday’s swell if you blinked. There is a bit […]

Gusty

The forecasted storm only just hit. (10:40am) It’s 35 knots of howling wind ripping Sydney apart. I look out the window and can see junk blowing down my street. The pram just blew over with my 16 month old son Jet in it. He’s ok, no need to call DOCs. This morning at sunrise it […]

Golden Hour

I love the winter light. When the sun is low on the horizon it puts out a rich, warm hue that is pretty special. It’s a good time to go for a dip, swim out the back and watch the day kick off. Enough herbal rant. Down to more factual observations of the morning… There […]

Squint

After a short 24 hour stopover in Torquay I’m back up in Sydney to greet the good weather and fun, small waves. Real nice morning, soaked with burnt orange rays and barely any wind. Huge crew out in the water before sunrise, apparently a lot of tourists dropping by for the day. Hungry pack with […]
