Phil Geurs, finding gold in between closeouts

morning slice

I love these mornings. Crisp morning light with a consistent south swell and not many crew around as it’s a school day. The sun now rises well out to sea in its summer position creating green, backlit walls. It’s a sweet mix between warm in the sun, chilly in the shade. Summer is close.

After a sensational weekend of surfing we’ve still got waves…Bondi was 2-3 foot with many closing out. Bronte had a fat wave but not coping with a high tide. Still fun, and surfable though. The great news is that it’s predominantly 3 foot all week (and from the south). Bingo!

Meet George. He’s in the photo below. I see him down the beach every morning. He works for the council and is responsible for picking up all the rubbish after the crowds leave. He’s a good bloke and got a nifty set of Bondi sunrise images shot on his mobile phone. I reckon I should have a little photo exhibition in my gallery for him. Ask him to show you. He also tells me every day to get down earlier – ha!

This morning I was having our morning banter and I commented on the amount of rubbish after a big summery Sunday. It was pretty rank today. Crap everywhere from weekend mindless goons. He said at 5am when he arrived a pack of inebriated youths were having a beer bottle smashing comp on the promenade…you know, where we all walk, ride, sit. He called the police but didn’t get much help, so he off he went, cleaning it all up before we arrive. Onya George. Legend.

I shot a lot of pics today. Only 5 appear here. Go to our Facebook Page to see more gold. Better still join our Facebook page and you’ll get updated faster on what’s happening down the beach. Do it.

Have a good week, :: uge (pronounced yooj)

  1. George you do a great job. I can’t help but be reminded how bad the beaches look around 6pm after a nice day in Sydney. If anyone is interested in joining me with a sniper rifle from the top of the Bondi Apartments picking off people who decide it’s too hard to take their rubbish with them when leaving the beach, let’s get together. Uge, I’ll be sure to bring a camera and send you the latest trends in side boob, I’m sure that would be a hit in the gallery or newsletter

  2. Hey Trevor. Glad you are passionate about keeping the beach clean – like me. Go easy on the sniper talk – you’ll end up with police dressed in all black around your house.

    1. Leuke verhalen Mily!

I like how the green in her mat compliments the algae.

She looks so little compared to the big rocks and hugs steps – like King Kong’s going to come back to his lair and snatch her up!
