Yesterday I met Formentera. All I can say, I will be back.
Formentera is a small island hanging off the south of Ibiza. A little speed boat will cross over the 6km ditch…and then you’ll see some of Europe’s best beaches.
For me, the water clarity, and unique electric blue colour was mind-blowing. It’s similar to Rottnest Island in Perth. Boats flock to the island – hundreds of them. With a tremendous number of superyachts (they always anchor in the best spots).
We didn’t have ideal conditions and a dud charter skipper…so I’ll have to come back and shoot the island properly.
Adios, Ugios
We are here for 2 weeks and stayed in The quiet Mijorn area.
Went to Illetes beach by car at 9.30 am and the carpark was full. I was the last car to go on. By 11.30 it was just like Benidorm with people. We visited formentera 25 years ago and then 3 other times and now the tranquil island is the same as all the other tourist areas.
The parking is horrendous and the idiot scooter drivers are a danger to everyone. However, the sea quality and clear underwater vision hadn’t changed.
Will I visit here again ? Probably not.
It’s no longer a tranquil place in peak season, sorry to say. I can now see why they are restricting access to vehicles visiting the island even though I needed a special vehicle permit to get here.
I find everything in Europe so damn busy.
There is just so many people there, and in summer everyone hits the beach.
I love the vibe, as in Australia, so many beaches are deserted.
