Winter solstice

Today is the winter solstice, also called the hibernal solstice, which occurs when either of Earth’s poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. This happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere. So what? Basically, today is the shortest day of the year (9hrs 53min) and from here on the days get longer as we get closer to summer again.

Just like every other day of this month, there are waves – what a great run of swell we’ve had this winter. I saw waves break in the head-high vicinity… a bit straight and junkie, but it’s contestable.

Support your local : Da Orazio is back in Bondi and operating behind his red door. Matteo is manning the pizza oven – just like old times, just how we like it. Even the North Bondi RSL has a new menu and is banging out meals with the best views on Bondi Beach. Depot has moved into the old Jackies. Lox Stock has the best Zucchini omlette in the southern hemi and the Wine Shop’s new fit-out will take you back to a backstreet in Europe. S’wich is a new sandwich joint (across from Lox) and young Jordan is working hard on his new concept.

Have a great day, :: uge
