Normally I chase reefs with 200-metre piping right-handers and no crowds…however, this reef is just as spectacular without a single wave breaking – The Great Barrier Reef (the largest reef system in the world!). Even Astronauts can see The Great Barrier Reef from space as it’s 2300 kilometres long, containing 2900 reefs and around 900 islands.
I’m staying on a tiny private island luxury lodge near the reef called Orpheus, which only holds 28 guests at a time (it’s very, very chilled and amazing). The best thing is it’s open to families so the groms have been lighting up the activities – Jet even hooked his first fish, a Coral Trout (which he ate that night). Orpheus is perfect for a 4 day getaway from Sydney – 2.5 hours flight to Townsville then a short heli ride over (it’s only accessible by chopper). Check it out.
The weather is warm and you can still swim in boardies. I do see Sydney has a couple of warm days coming up with chilly starts.
There is a monster swell approaching Indonesia later this week. It’s gonna be the largest swell of the season. Attention all Hellman –Â fly to Indo today/tomorrow!

“Do yourself a favour, dive on the Reef once in your life”
Better get in quick, you might only get one chance….huge sections of the reef are dying and the future looks grim.
Other than that, the pics look great!
