Below Deck - Only in Bondi - a giant spa that can hold 50 people on the beach

Friday’s Mayhem

It was a beautiful sunny Friday morning with the masses, a great way to end the week. Oh boy, there are so many crew on Fridays. Bondi just feels like it’s gonna pop at the seams (lycra seams, of course). Fortunately, there’s a giant spa being installed in the middle to calm it all down. Yeah, it’s a massive spa!

A storm blew through around 11 a.m., and it’s now gone all grey and a bit soggy. As I type, I can hear another squall coming through.

Happy Valentine’s Day! Surely you’ve got a present for your partner by now? If not, you are in luck. Get this for your Valentine, order online, and come pick it up. We are open today until p.m. – OR a gift card will be sent instantaneously.

Around here…

Whilst the ENE swell has enlarged overnight, it isn’t better. There is a howling 20-knot NE wind in town, knocking things around. This morning I visited local beaches and places I rarely frequent, hunting new angles or shots for your viewing pleasure. I can’t say I saw anyone scoring good waves on my morning wanderings. […]

The Dozer still rearranging the beach at Bondi.

Protected

The wind has been up since pretty early, and you’ll need to seek corners with protection from the ESE 10-knot breeze. Bondi looked fun (surf-wise) at sunrise, with ruffled surfaces, but there were definitely some peaky options. Not many crew were out. It is definitely staying darker longer as we drift into transitional seasons. Patchy […]

Hell yeah little Spikey

Surprise Rise

Last night, I thought this morning would be a sleep-in, forecasted dark grey skies and a rain dump. These La Nina patterns are unpredictable – I was surprised to see it shape into a cracker day with full sunshine. Waves were decent, and a pack of hyperactive groms were in turbo-mode. Shoulder high, semi-clean, peaky […]

Boat Ramp Dips

Happy Mondays

At Bondi Beach, sets are rolling in at about 2 to 3 feet, with a primary swell of 0.9 meters from the south at an 8-second period. After such a long spell of crappy small waves, it’s nice to see swell breaking in the bay – even if it’s a bit onshore. The water temperature […]

The start of a nice, summery hot day at Mark's Park

Friday Feels

It’s a picture-perfect day in Sydney. It’s a textbook summer combo—NE winds, small waves, warm water, and a muggy 30 degrees on the land. Exquisite weather coinciding with Friday celebrations made Bondi like a party at sunrise. People were everywhere—I’d call it the season’s peak. Go outside, you must. Especially seeing some showers is heading […]

Side skids on the coping, Tremt, Bondi

Vacant

In stark contrast to yesterday, the Bondi line-up was empty at sunrise. Where were you all? Did you sleep in thinking it was going to rain? Yeah, the weatherman got it a little wrong this morning, as it was beautiful and cloudless. Even a little wave at Bondaka – better than yesterday. The water is […]

So much going on down at Bondi today, it's bedlam

Frenzy

If you own a surfboard, there’s a fair chance you were out there this morning. Am I right? Typically, I arrive at the beach, and it is quiet, as you all sleep and slowly flow into the bay – but today – wow, it was a mass of humans as the sun rose around 6 […]

Bondi Awakens! 6:00am today

Pastel Tide

It was nice to wake to a sky filled with colour as the sun rose. So many people were down at Bondi early, phones out, capturing the gold. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a good one; today was great! But it didn’t last long. We’re in the middle of a small wave spell. […]

Sunday Paradise - Feb 3 was a cracker day!

Vitamin D

After a lot of grey and patchy weather, it was so nice to score an A-Grade, top-notch, exquisite Sunday beach day. The winds remained gentle all day, keeping it neat, and the high tides provided dreamy blue hues at most of Sydney’s bays. I visited most of the beaches of the East on Sunday, and […]

La Niña is back and turning the lights off

Niña

La Niña is dominating the landscape with dark skies, sprinkles and onshore easterlies (Dammit). I’ll be honest: dark onshore mushy Bondi is not my favourite flavour of this neighbourhood – but hey – it’s Friday, and the party continues with scores of crew heading down for the sunrise rituals. Waves are sloppy 2 foot. I’d […]

First pic of Icebergs for the year

I’m Back…

Six weeks. That’s how long it’s been since my last Bondi post. I really enjoyed roaming the remote southwest of WA and the north coast of NSW – surfing remote beachies, dirt tracks and glorious hot days. After celebrating our 25 years of continuous shooting, blogging, and Bondi-ing, it was a much-needed reset. This morning, […]

Hitting the points

Dunghutti Country

G’day! I know – I know, Aquabumps posts have been lean this month, but our travels have been plentiful! Next week, we’ll return to the usual programming; don’t worry. We’ve been exploring Dunghutti country, the northern coast of NSW, where the water is like a bath, and the points provide fun waves. This season has […]
