We’ve timed our arrival into Esperance perfectly with Bodhi’s 50-year storm (OK slight exaggeration). It hasn’t stopped raining here today. I can’t complain as we’ve had an incredible run of weather and waves since we landed in Western Australia.
So all those Instagram photos you see of Esperance’s iridescent blue water, friendly beach kangaroos and epic white sands weren’t out to welcome us after a 5-hour drive from Denmark.
The word “Esperance” in French means hope. So we certainly hope things clear up for our time here. I’ve wanted to shoot here for many moons…
Luckily, earlier this week, I forecasted this nasty change in weather and chartered a small plane to shoot these Esperance shots. Esperance is VERY isolated; it took 2 hours to get here by plane (otherwise 5hrs by car), shoot, then 2.5 hours to get back to Denmark (headwind). From what I saw from the flight just blew my mind — the bluest of blues and the whitest of white sands (#insane). And being a beach photographer for 20 years, I’ve seen a few beaches around this globe. This stretch of coastline is just so unique. It’s stunning.
This is my last post from the west. We’ve had a blast over here. Being originally from WA, it was a great experience to show my groms where I came from. The west coast is so different from the east coast. It’s so sparsely populated over here, so finding space to yourself is never difficult.
