Well that was a wild night in Sydney. I hope you found your Sulo bin this morning, probably hanging down the end of the street with all the others. Trees have fallen over and sand dunes have been created in the Bucketlist. Crazy times.
It’s been raining, solidly for about 12-15 hours now. The garden is loving it. South swell has arrived and I saw thick chunks rolling into Bondi (8 foot plus). No one around, no one surfing, no good – yet. Be patient. I opted not to shoot today for obviously reasons…hopefully it will all calm down soon.
These images are from the weekends shooting spree above our beaches. Enjoy and think of summer.
My bro is renting out a free standing house really close to Bondi Beach. Keen?

Please pull your panties up, get out there and shoot some of the heaviest seas sydney has seen in ages.
I will be at the video store with Dardis.
Yawn. What onshore 30 knot seas shot from the car? No thanks! Boring.
Am quite a fan of the raw ocean power shots you have put up previously. defintely trumps “people laying on sand”
Love your work mate the aerials are such a unique shot!! If it is still wet tomorrow how about some more shots from the Mentawais?
Common Bro, northen end of maroubra tomorrow… Pleeeeease?
I dont understand your logic uge. I love your photography and all and you inspire me but yesterday was one of the bigest swells ive seen ever since ive lived in bondi and personally, I was so excited to set my alarm and get down there. The winds werent directly onshore and south bondi was sooo fun to watch the 10 +ft sets rolling through. The wind was sth west so it was semi-protected and me and my mates were getting so excited at the sheer raw power being produced by these waves. I’m still confued as to why you decided to not shoot these once in a decade swells??
Hey Peter,
Thanks for commenting.
Hopefully this will clear a few things up.
I shoot with expensive digi Canon cameras, around $20k to $30k worth.
When its raining, it’s cool, I shoot a bit here and there using rain coats and covers for my camer. But am restricted.
When it’s torrential downpours (like yesterday morning) it is too hard too shoot – also, you don’t really get any good shots in torrential down pours. Not worth risky all that camera equipment.
So I elected to not shoot yesterday morning knowing today is a much better day (no rain) and the swell is still rogue.
So I shot some images today of big waves – hope you enjoy them.
Swell of the decade? Pete…that is crazy talk.
We have had about 4 swells of this size this winter alone.
Keep in mind I’ve done around 4,000 of these photos updates (15 years of shooting daily), so you have to excuse me if I miss one or two in a year due to extreme weather.
All the best, uge
