Don’t be fooled by the sunny weather – is pretty chilly outside (7) – and it’s only going to get colder as this week progresses. Some arctic air is being pushed up by a low off Tassie…so the first weekend of the ski season should have something to slide on.
Down at Bondi it all started with a decent sunrise. Patches of colour hung over the Buckler while a new, small pulse of south swell provided fun 2 footers for the few out.
People ask me about my camera gear daily. I use Canon gear and have done so well before they came on as a major sponsor. (So no one ask me to write this – don’t worry, not an infomercial.) Today, I’ve used a new body, Canon 7d. Was really impressed with this little nugget. Some would ask why a full time shooter would mess with a cheaper, small body… Well, it’s packed with goodness, 8 frames a second (now that’s not far off my 10 frame 1 series). Plenty of focus points (19 in fact – kicks butt over the 5d)…and most importantly she’s small, so swimming is easy and all round better handling. I’m pretty tired of luggin’ huge bodies around. So – I give it the thumbs up.
Tengirri – surf the Mentawais
It’s that time of year again, you need to find a few mates and book a charter boat to the surf rich Mentawai Islands off Sumatra (in 2012). I’ve been every year for about 10 now…so I guess that says it all. We travel on Tengirri, an Aussie run boat, small, fast, and great service. How’s that for a wrap. www.tengirri.com or book thru anthony@tengirri.com

Could you wish a friend and colleague of mine Imogen McInnes a greeting and best wishes for her WEDDING to fiancée Rob on Wednesday evening in chilly Melbourne, please ?
She just lives for your daily message – got me onto it too – and is moving to even chillier Switzerland with Rob where he has started a new job. Its freezing here and a message will give her a warm hug for her special day.
Many thanks
Florian
Hi Uge
My name is Ollie. I recently moved to Bondi road a few weeks ago from the UK. I’m a surfer myself (although Cornwall doesn’t really compare!) and I found your sight from the Canon website! I checked it out and was excited to see your based in Bondi! So I took a walk down to your Gallery! You have some inspiring work! I am also a photographer, and have just bought the Canon 7D to bring to Auz with me! So far its been brilliant! I’m interested… where do you get an underwater housing for it? And I also noticed you are looking for some part time work in the gallery? I have a passion for both surfing and photography, and would love to come by for a chat if this is at all possible?
Cheers, Ollie.
aquatech (www.aquatech.net) do a housing for the 7d, but its not cheap. mate of mine has one and reckons its pretty good … i’m still saving for my own!
(i don’t work for aquatech)
