Chapter 3: We’ve switched islands to the tiny Como Cocoa, a stone’s throw from one of Maldives’ surfing jewels, Kandooma.
Cocoa is an island so small that you can kick a football across the middle of it…or a lilo circumnavigational will take you around half an hour. At low tide, a 500-metre sand spit emerges from the ocean, connected to the island’s northeast corner, the perfect way to burn off your meals.
There are 33 villas on the water in the most exquisite lagoon; these pictures don’t do it justice. It really is heaven on earth. We’ve got a resident (harmless) black tip shark constantly circulating under our room, while you often see turtles, rays, endless schools of fish, and rarely another guest.
The best part is that we’re surrounded by decent waves in this South Male Atoll, and our buddies at Perfect Wave will pick you up and deliver you to uncrowded surf day in – day out. Door-to-reef service—it’s unreal.
We’ve been in The Maldives for eight days and had super fun waves daily. We’ve scored waves for kids (10 and 13-year-old groms), frothing wives & overhead high sets to get me psyched. I’m impressed.
The house reef on Coco Cocoa is a must for a snorkel, as they guarantee a turtle sighting on every dip! Wanna know more, click this
This year is special for me, and we’re embarking on more travel than usual. I hope you’re enjoying the ride. We still have more destinations to go to.
