Today’s wanderings took me to Bronte Pool, one of the most photogenic ocean pools in New South Wales. It’s small, only 30 metres long, but has a cult-like following of hardcore locals that swim all year round. These days Instagram has blown the joint to the universe, so it’s a key photo-geek hang.
The pool was built in 1887 and cost a mere 150 pounds; the pool was privately operated up until the 1960s. Its other name was Bonds Ocean Pool as the Bond family leased it for over 50 years. John Bond introduced the concept of mixed-sex bathing to Bronte Pool.
This little rock pool has even produced gold medalists Olympian swimmers – Evelyn Whillier back in the 1930s. Also, there’s a record of a shark being washed into the pool, but the details are vague. (similar to the shark that washed up into a Manly rock pool back in 2017).
Anyway, enough rambles. I know you’ve got work to pump out. It’s a salubrious spring day with small dribbly waves. Currently, 23 degrees so make sure you go for a swim. :: uge
