The beach is a different place after 9 am. The crowds thin after the 333 drops everyone into the city. Out come the die-hard locals who enjoy a bit of space and fewer drop-ins. Today we’ve finally got some waves to shoot – head high on sets and looking decent. The winds are kicking around to the East more as I write, which will make it more onshore. So now is best.
How about that Southerly last night? I warned you all on my Instagram feed – it was gonna tear shreds off this town. A large tree fell in my backyard. It was wild. Kids were screaming, helicopters blazing, sirens, umbrellas flying into Campbell Parade – 6 pm last night looked like something out of the “Storm Chasers” show. I loved it! Especially the cool down as the day was roasting hot.
Saturday – Morning shower. Cool. Onshore head high surf.
Sunday – 28 and sunny, but windy in the arvo. Morning should have good waves!
Today’s photos are a mix of surfing at 9 am and New Year’s Day shots from the helicopter.
