The Bay of Plenty

Shooting good images on a day like today can be a little tricky. There’s barely any light and most photos turn to a wash of grey. Morning rain isn’t the best shutter lubricant either. Most waves I saw this morning closed out before anyone could get to their feet. Shame, ‘cause there is plenty of east swell. I bet the midday high tide will slow the straightenhanders and sprout a decent wave. Around the corner at exposed beaches it looked real messy and deserted.

Seeing you’re all about to spend the summer on the beach it may be a good idea to read Doctor Bob’s (aka Dr. Rip) new book “Essential Beach Book – everything you need to know about surf, sand and rips”. Titles says it all really. He’s the scientist that pours dye into the Tamarama rips showing their ferocity. Look

Photo5 is an annual creative photo competition run by Canon that begins with a small box. Inside the box is 5 briefs to challenge keen shooters. I’m the judge for the 4th brief Confetti/inspired by movement and can’t accept bribes – sorry.
