Tropical Cyclone Alfred is now 200 km off Brisbane, but its effects can be felt down here in Sydney. This morning, we had volatile weather, a few sprinkles, onshore winds from Alfred’s tail, and mushy, uninviting waves (no one out).
These days are always a little tricky for me to shoot, trying to polish up the grey mundane…so I visited Bronte Pool, a sunrise hive of activity, for something different.
At Bronte, the swell surge hit the concrete beach back wall, probably at the last high tide. Let’s see what happens at today’s 2:17 p.m. high tide. I noticed Bronte SLSC has made sandbagging preparations in place. Spare a thought for our Queensland buddies! If we’re sandbagging down here, just imagine places like Currumbin SLSC on the Goldie. Hopefully, they’ll get through this cyclonic battle against a giant.
Recent updates indicate that Alfred’s landfall may be delayed until Friday, March 7, due to its slowed progression (hopefully not at high tide). The anticipated landfall zone extends from Maroochydore to Coolangatta, encompassing major urban centres such as Brisbane and the Gold Coast. They’re saying they could get 450mm of rain in 24 hours!
Let’s hope Alfred miraculously backs down. Until tomorrow, have a good day and stay dry.
