It was a textbook Friday with an incredible number of people enjoying the comfortable conditions at Bondi. The music was blaring, and the sunrise parties kicked off like an arvo on Mykonos. The vibe is high, and everyone is in for a swim.
The waves weren’t great, onshore head high and mushy, but the groms were still happy.

I lost a mate this week, and the Bondi community has lost a legend. I’ll greatly miss him, Big Dee, Gladiator, Big Unit – Dion Horstmans.
His sudden departure has shocked us all and broken our hearts.
Over the past 25 years, I have loved seeing the big fella on his daily swim at South Bondi whilst I shoot. Often, we’d have an authentic chat where he showed so much interest in my little boys’ lives, my art and my business.
My house is full of the Big Unit’s work, a daily reminder of his beautiful craftsmanship and artistry.
R.I.P. Man Mountain.
