I found waves of the chlorinated variety this morning – yes – the long-awaited URBNSURF Sydney is now open at Homebush Olympic Park! Phoooar.
Before URBN Sydney, I had never surfed a wave pool. They’re fascinating. You can’t stop hooting at iridescent blue nuggets pulsating from the top corner as you enter the gates. The vibe is high, the tunes are on, and everybody is smiling and into it. No more hustling in a crowded beach peak, this wave is neatly organised, mechanical (literally), and guaranteed.
As I’m a big unit, of course I prefer the sessions with more grunt and lip, but there are waves for everyone out there, even a reform for beginners on the inside. My kids & wives have all caught waves out there.
From Bondi, it’s a 30-minute drive, mainly underground in new tunnels. I’m sure there will be many pool party posts in the future, a great alternative when the conditions turn off around Bondi. Ava-crack.
