Guruk

Sorry about the recent radio silence. You know it’s ’cause of school holidays…and nothing beats a road trip heading north to the warmer weather.

I’ll confess – I’ve driven past the Port Macquarie turn-off on the A1 highway (many times) in a hurry to get to North-North-Bondi (Aka Byron Bay).

I never knew Port Macquarie has incredible idyllic beaches, mostly rocky coves with transparent blue lagoon water – I thought I was on Mallorca for a second! Especially as there’s no swell – and it resembles The Med flatness.

I reckon when the swell finally returns, these coastal nooks and crannies will serve surfers well with plenty of breaking options. Some big names come from this region (like Matty Banting, Mick Campbell,) which tells me it gets good.

Port is a big town but still has a pretty chilled vibe. Plenty of good food and stuff to do. More info

The Birpai people are the traditional landowners of the Port Macquarie region, and they referred to it as Guruk.
