Our Mentawai voyage is off to a slow start this year. That’s cool; it can’t pump every day here. An off day in The Ments is head high anyway…that eases the jolt fromĀ our training grounds; the Bondi Beach rip bowls to these hollow coral reef breaks. There is still plenty of other things to do in an island archipelago when it’s small.

The swell forecast is healthy, so you’ll see plenty of action in the next few days.

We’re aboard the salubrious Ratu Motu, a 40-metre floating giant out here with 12 surfers and 12 crew. Ratu Motu was made famous by starring in the surf movie Young Guns with Kelly Slater. The boat used to be called Indies Trader 4. Ring a bell?

I trust the sun is out and the almost-winter swell is trickling into Sydney at the moment, enjoy.
